Become the Magic Furry Alien (Or Not) Tactics 2000

This would be a turn-based strategy game (not really an SRPG, you wouldn't gain experience, but you might get cool items), with combat kind of like Fire Emblem or Advance Wars, but you'd have a deployment limit of 3 or 4 and fight a bunch of generic enemies (like in Mario + Rabbids). Although some chapters would have you controlling generics against a few strong enemy units to mix things up.
The story takes place in an alternate 2000 where aliens exist, look like certain animals, and are always bickering and trying to curry support with various human factions. (The alien societies are all homogeneous so Earth is special because of how many different cultures it has.)
Because humans don't already have magic, they can equip special magic items to transform into any type of alien (kind of like in Fire Emblem Engage except instead of changing your hair it changes everything except your hair, lol). You only get one of each item, which means you can't get into arguments over the plural of octopus. Mammal targets (goat, armadillo, cat) mostly grant stat boots or nerfs; other targets (octopus, snake, bee) make you weaker but grant special movement over certain terrain. Your transformation can also be triggered (but not cancelled) by certain enemy units, which means you have to be careful (some transformations lower stats, and all of them are weak to magic attacks, whereas humans and robots are not).
Some chapters have you use generic one-off units, instead or in addition to your regular ones, and these don't transform. They might be of any species.
Robots are the main enemy unit type but there's also a robot unit who joins your team and is like a Fire Emblem dancer. There's also a robot escort mission with a vacuum cleaner, who's like the robot version of the snail. In the story, robots are diverse and have multiple leaders like humans, but unlike humans they cannot transform.
The goal of the characters is to prevent a war, so they are limited to doing certain things what won't escalate the conflict. Basically, they're playing politics and that explains why they don't actually kill anyone in this strategy war game.
