If you've been following me for a while you might have seen my Star Trek OCs. I was thinking that it might work just as well if I took out all the Star Trek specific references and made it its own thing.
The one in the middle is Ashley Dekker (I changed her last name to distinugish her from the superhero character I have - they're pretty much the same person, but the stories are unrelated.) In this universe, there are plenty of aliens living on Earth, especially on the northeast coast of South America near the busy Kourou spaceport. Ashley, who grew up about 200 miles away in Paramaribo, is a young trans woman of South Asian descent, tall and lanky, and a pretty good athlete, especially at the high jump.
Sharona Misam (or Sam for short), on the right, is an alien from the other side of the galaxy. He's in the sciences and he's Ashley's good friend. He had a one-time-use device that would take him back home; when he became ill and couldn't use it to get back for treatment, Ashley activated it for him, even though she knew it would strand her lightyears away from Earth.
Sam's society doesn't use money - everyone is given whatever they need - but Ashley didn't want to sit around, so Sam found them both jobs aboard a passenger ship. There are other aliens like Sam, but Ashley is the only human on board. The two of them hope to get back to Earth someday, but it's so far away that they decide to stick around for a while and hope a shortcut eventually reveals itself.
Fer Nessellar, the one on the right, works on the ship too, but as a contractor from Iroshar - a planet that definitely uses money. She has an inferiority complex about that. But she likes her job and she takes pride in doing it well and keeping her employees happy.
